This is quite bizarre. Nestle wants to copyright an image of coffee. Hello! Generic!

hhhmmmm.....maybe this is just one of the small ways that Nestle is trying to make a monopoly on themselves and trying to put big coffee shops like Starbucks and little independent coffee houses like the one my family owns out of business or to control them?

Never mind, I really don't care. The reply I got from them was pure smultz marketing spiel:

"Thank you for contacting us regarding our trademark application for two particular images relating to coffee.

This is a very transparent process; we have lodged an application and we think we have a good case. Others disagree; there will be an adjudication by the regulator in due course.

We are not trying to trademark "coffee" - rather, two particular images which are linked to our product, that link having been established over years of regular use in advertising and marketing.

We hope this information provides you with some further clarification about our application.

Sincerely,

Yeah, greed is good.

lame, maybe they can copyright the exact image, but they can't go after someone that uses a red coffee cup from the side. That's 100% decaf lame.
